The Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) has placed foreign policy at the heart of its Contract with the People, pledging a “Guyana First” approach that prioritizes the needs of ordinary citizens—particularly the poor, youth, women, and rural communities—in all diplomatic and investment decisions.
FGM Presidential Candidate Amanza Walton-Desir explained that no single party has all the answers, making bipartisan support essential to tackling the challenges Guyana faces on the global stage.
“Geopolitical winds are converging on our shores. We must adopt an all hands on deck approach to foreign policy—bringing together the best and brightest across political lines,” Walton-Desir said.
The coalition stressed that Guyana must maintain strong international relationships consistent with its legacy and regional leadership. This includes historic partners such as CARICOM, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Europe, while also expanding ties with Brazil, Africa, China, India, and Latin America.
With Guyana’s newfound oil wealth, Walton-Desir emphasized that the nation is now positioned to play a greater leadership role within CARICOM, both economically and diplomatically.
The FGM’s foreign policy vision, like the rest of its manifesto, remains heavy on bipartisanship, inclusivity, and power-sharing, aiming to unite Guyana beyond party politics in its international outlook.
