FIGUEIRA DID LITTLE FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE PNCR – NORTON

PNCR Leader Dismisses Figueira’s Claims of Being Sidelined, Says Party Rewards Active Contribution

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) leader Aubrey Norton has dismissed as disingenuous the recent resignation claims made by former party member and parliamentarian Jermaine Figueira, who said he was sidelined and excluded from meaningful party engagement.

Speaking on Friday, Norton made it clear that in the PNCR, “heavyweights” are defined not by titles, but by their actions.

“Heavyweights are determined by our party based on one—the work you do—and not solely the position you hold,” Norton stated during an interview with Nightly News.

He pointed to Figueira’s lack of activity, even while holding the title of Shadow Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, arguing that it wasn’t until Nima Flue-Bess replaced Figueira that the party began to see real traction in those areas.

“Youth, sport, and culture only became a focus after I removed Figueira and placed Nima Flue-Bess—and she is a heavyweight,” Norton asserted.

The PNCR leader emphasized that executive membership alone is not enough—members must “get into the community, relate to people, and do what has to be done.”

Figueira, in his public resignation, cited a lack of visionary leadership and growing divisiveness within the PNCR. However, Norton said that none of the persons who’ve left the party have taken any significant support from the APNU coalition with them.

Meanwhile, Norton confirmed that Nima Flue-Bess and former Georgetown Mayor Ubraj Narine are among the confirmed candidates for the APNU’s slate in the upcoming elections, underscoring their value to the party’s forward momentum.
