FESTIVAL CITY PEDESTRIAN KILLED IN MIDDAY CRASH — DRIVER WAS REPORTEDLY SPEEDING

GEORGETOWN – A Festival City woman lost her life on Thursday in a violent road crash at the busy Aubrey Barker Road and Blue Mountain Road intersection, a crossing used daily by hundreds of commuters.

Police confirmed that 50-year-old Shondell Dundas was walking across the pedestrian crossing just after midday when she was struck by a speeding motor car, registration PAJ 9875, driven by a 32-year-old West Ruimveldt resident.

Investigators say the vehicle was heading east at a high rate of speed when it slammed into Dundas, killing her on the spot. The tragic impact left stunned onlookers scrambling to help before emergency responders arrived.

The driver was breathalyzed and returned low readings but has been taken into custody as investigators continue to gather evidence. The vehicle has been lodged to undergo a mechanical examination.

Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from cameras positioned near the intersection in an effort to piece together the exact circumstances leading up to the deadly collision.

The investigation remains active and police are urging motorists to exercise caution, especially as pedestrian fatalities continue to rise on the nation’s roads.
