“ENERGY BALANCE VITAL FOR GLOBAL FUTURE,” – PRESIDENT ALI TO INDUSTRY LEADERS IN TEXAS

The Vital Equilibrium: President Ali Urges Global Shift Toward “Energy Balance” at Houston Summit

HOUSTON, TEXAS — Amid the high-stakes atmosphere of the 2026 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali delivered a sobering reality check to the world’s energy elite. Addressing a packed forum of industry leaders, Dr. Ali called for a fundamental pivot in international discourse: moving beyond the narrow lens of “energy transition” to a more pragmatic and inclusive framework of “energy balance.”

The President’s address comes at a time when Guyana continues to solidify its role as a global energy powerhouse, balancing its massive offshore oil production with a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Redefining the Challenge

President Ali argued that the global energy crisis is not merely a technical shift from carbon to renewables, but a systemic challenge of volume and sufficiency. With global energy demand projected to surge over the next decade, Ali warned that a singular focus on transitioning away from traditional sources—without securing a reliable replacement volume—could lead to global instability.

“The challenge fundamentally concerns the volume and sufficiency of energy supply to meet rapidly growing global demand,” the President stated. He noted that while the world celebrated a record $3.3 trillion investment in clean energy in 2025, the distribution of that capital remains dangerously lopsided.

The Paradox of Global Investment

A central theme of Dr. Ali’s address was the geographical disparity in energy financing. Current data reveals that the vast majority of green investment is concentrated in China, the United States, and Europe. This leaves emerging markets in Africa and Latin America—regions with the highest projected energy needs—severely underfunded.

“This uneven distribution risks an inclusive and equitable global energy transition,” Ali remarked. He pointed out the global paradox: while renewables are expanding at their fastest rate in history, fossil fuels still underpin over 80% of global consumption. The President cautioned that ignoring this reality ignores the needs of the developing world, where reliability and cost are matters of survival.

Guyana’s Role in Global Stability

President Ali positioned Guyana as a model for “energy balance,” highlighting how stable, democratic energy producers can act as a bridge during this volatile period. He contended that the “Energy Balance” approach allows for the coexistence of traditional and emerging systems, ensuring that supply constraints do not trigger a cost-of-living crisis or energy poverty.

He emphasized that sustainable progress depends on four key pillars:

  • Innovation: Advancing carbon-capture and more efficient extraction.
  • International Cooperation: Moving capital to the Global South.
  • Sound Policy: Creating frameworks that encourage investment in both new and existing systems.
  • Responsible Management: Ensuring resource extraction remains environmentally conscious.

A Call for Pragmatism

In his closing remarks, Dr. Ali urged stakeholders to abandon “entrenched silos” and adopt a holistic view. He concluded that “energy balance” is the only viable foundation for a future that is sufficient, fair, and sustainable.

As Guyana prepares for its next phase of offshore development, the President’s message at OTC 2026 serves as a clear signal that the nation intends to lead the global conversation on powering the world without leaving developing nations behind.
