‘DID YOU DO SOMETHING TO HIM?’ – GRANDMOTHER QUESTIONED FATHER BEFORE GRIM DISCOVERY

HGP NIGHTLY NEWS – Days before six-year-old Orlando Jaikarran was found dead in a canal at Bath Settlement, his grandmother reportedly confronted the child’s father with a chilling question: had he done something to the boy?

At the time, Bharrat Jaikarran reportedly denied harming his son and insisted that he loved and cared for his children.

Now, days later, Bharrat remains in police custody and has reportedly confessed to killing Orlando.

The child’s grandmother, Dhankumarie Gowkarran, said Bharrat contacted her on the morning of October 14 and told her that Orlando was missing.

Concerned about the child’s disappearance, she questioned her son directly about whether he had harmed the six-year-old.

He reportedly denied it.

The search for Orlando would later take a devastating turn.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, the child’s decomposing body was discovered floating in the Sea Dam Canal at Water Street, Block D, Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice.

Region Five Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Lonsdale Whithrite, confirmed that information provided by Orlando’s father led investigators to the location where the body was found.

The remains were subsequently removed and taken to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the cause of death.

Orlando and his two brothers, ages seven and 10, had been staying with their father. Their parents reportedly separated approximately two years ago, while their mother continued providing financial support for the children through the court system.

What happened to Orlando and what may have led to his death remain key questions for investigators.

While his father has reportedly confessed, police are continuing their investigation and are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination.
