
TRIUMPH, E.C.D. – A routine construction project on the East Coast Demerara turned into a scene of unimaginable horror yesterday afternoon, as a massive swarm of bees launched a sudden, fatal attack on a group of road workers, killing one man instantly and sending another to the hospital.
Police are now investigating the tragic incident, which occurred at approximately 3:45 PM on Surat Drive, Triumph East Coast Demerara.The victim has been identified as 29-year-old contractor Winston Semple of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.
The injured worker is 40-year-old Glendon Simpson of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara, who remains hospitalized. According to reports, Semple, Simpson, and several other workers were carrying out road construction when the swarm suddenly descended upon them.
The attack was so overwhelming and severe that Winston Semple was pronounced dead at the scene. Glendon Simpson was rushed to a medical facility where he is receiving treatment for multiple stings.
The body of the deceased has been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Mortuary, awaiting an official autopsy. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the unexpected, deadly hazards faced by workers across Guyana’s construction sites.
