Day 39 of the ongoing election fraud trial continued on Monday before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where former Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo took the stand to deliver his voir dire testimony.
Mingo, who served as the Returning Officer for District Four during the disputed March 2020 General and Regional Elections, provided detailed evidence about the events surrounding the election tabulation process. He also told the court that he was feeling unwell during key periods of the 2020 election proceedings and recalled his arrest on August 25, 2020.
Following his testimony, Mingo was cross-examined by state prosecutors. The case has been adjourned to November 18, when the trial is expected to continue.
A total of nine defendants remain before the court on allegations stemming from an alleged conspiracy to defraud the 2020 election results. Those charged include:
- Clairmont Mingo, former Returning Officer, District Four
- Keith Lowenfield, former Chief Elections Officer
- Roxanne Myers, former Deputy Chief Elections Officer
- Volda Lawrence, former PNCR Chairperson
- Carol Smith-Joseph, PNCR activist
- Sheffern February, GECOM staff
- Enrique Livan, GECOM staff
- Michelle Miller, GECOM staff
- Denise Babb-Cummings, GECOM staff
The group faces 19 conspiracy charges, all linked to allegations of manipulating the March 2020 election results. Prosecutors have indicated that they intend to call approximately 73 witnesses during the trial.
The proceedings continue to attract significant public and political attention as one of the most consequential election-related cases in Guyana’s modern history.
