Following the signing of its Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for the S7 Shallow Block in the Stabroek area, Cybele Energy has announced plans to work closely with local stakeholders to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as expand opportunities for women and youth in Guyana’s job market.
The commitment was outlined by Cybele Energy’s Chief Executive Officer, Beatrice Mensah-Tayui, during the formal signing of the PSA on Tuesday. The Ghanaian-led, woman-headed consortium said its presence in Guyana will extend beyond exploration activities to include meaningful social and workforce development initiatives.
Mensah-Tayui said the agreement marks not only a milestone for her company, but also an opportunity to empower future generations. She emphasised that Cybele Energy intends to support initiatives led by young people and to create pathways for leadership development, particularly for women.
She underscored the importance of dismantling barriers that have traditionally limited women’s participation in the oil and gas sector, noting that Guyanese women are capable of occupying senior technical and managerial roles within the industry.
According to the CEO, Cybele Energy plans to commence in-depth desktop reviews and targeted studies to guide its operational strategy in the S7 Shallow Block. These preliminary assessments will focus on geological and geophysical analysis, forming the foundation for a comprehensive work programme.
Mensah-Tayui explained that the PSA outlines the framework for these activities and that once the technical teams finalise the work plan, the company will move forward in shaping its exploration strategy.
She also disclosed a shift in Cybele Energy’s strategic partnerships, stating that the company will no longer collaborate with U.S.-based Liberty Petroleum due to new opportunities emerging in Somalia. Instead, Cybele Energy will partner with Norway-based Elemental Energies, a firm recognised for its experience working alongside major international operators, including TotalEnergies.
Cybele Energy’s leadership has reiterated that its operations in Guyana will prioritise local capacity building, inclusion, and long-term development alongside energy exploration.
