Police in Regional Division Four ‘C’ are investigating the execution-style murder of a 34-year-old contractor along the East Coast of Demerara, a killing that has left relatives searching for answers and residents shaken.
The dead man has been identified as Homton Chichester, also known as “Orlando,” a carpenter and contractor of Bare Root, Bachelor’s Adventure. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2026, along the Bare Root Access Road.
According to police, Chichester’s body was discovered lying motionless on the roadway, bearing gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder. Ranks from Guyana Police Force responded to the scene and launched an immediate investigation.
Speaking with reporters, Chichester’s mother, Mary Chichester, said she was at home when she received the devastating news of her son’s death. She explained that he normally worked in Berbice and had travelled to the East Coast to spend time with his young son, who was celebrating his birthday.
According to the grieving mother, Chichester was expected to return to Berbice the following day. She expressed shock and confusion over the killing, saying she is unsure whether her son may have been the victim of mistaken identity.
She also revealed that Chichester had recently been involved in a separate violent incident in which he was stabbed, but later chose not to pursue the matter further or give additional evidence against the alleged attacker.
Investigators have since canvassed the area for CCTV cameras and have retrieved video footage, which is currently being analysed. Several individuals have been contacted and questioned as police work to establish the motive and circumstances surrounding the murder.
Police have not yet made any arrests and investigations are ongoing.
