APNU LEADERS DEMAND JUSTICE FOR ACID ATTACK SURVIVOR JILLICIA LEITCH

Georgetown, Guyana – September 29, 2025 – The scars of an acid attack have left young mother Jillicia Leitch fighting to rebuild her life, and the A Partnership for National Unity has now joined the growing calls for justice.

Over the weekend, APNU Executive Member Ganesh Mahipaul led a team of senior APNU+AFC leaders to Region Three, where they met with Leitch following the brutal assault that left her disfigured and in hospital care. The visit, captured in Mahipaul’s official Facebook update, underscored both solidarity and outrage over the incident.

“We were deeply saddened to have learnt of the horrific attack on a beautiful young woman whose face and body were disfigured by acid,” Mahipaul wrote. He explained that after watching her emotional interview on BIG SMITH News Watch, he and colleague Coretta McDonald, along with PNCR Region Three Chair Rochelle Rimple-Smith and newly elected APNU councillors, felt compelled to visit. “During our time together, we encouraged her to hold on to faith and trust in the Supreme as she journeys toward healing and recovery. With pain in her voice, she cried out for justice.”

Mahipaul stressed that the attack cannot be treated as just another statistic. Calling on the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and the Guyana Police Force, he urged swift and compassionate intervention: “This matter must be treated with the seriousness it deserves. Justice must be delivered to this courageous young woman.”
