Residents along the East Coast of Demerara now have access to comprehensive medical services—including dialysis, CT scans, and neonatal care—thanks to the commissioning of the G$6.6 billion Enmore Regional Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility officially opened by President Irfaan Ali on Monday.

Speaking at the event, President Ali emphasized that the new hospital is a crucial part of the government’s vision to deliver people-centered, high-quality healthcare to all Guyanese, regardless of income or location.

“This hospital is part of a larger vision… where every child, every mother, every elder, every patient—regardless of their income or address—has access to modern, responsive healthcare,” said the Head of State.

The hospital is equipped with a 24/7 emergency unit, 75 air-conditioned inpatient beds, two advanced operating theaters, and a full-service laboratory for faster diagnostic results. Services now available to residents include gynecology, urology, dentistry, ophthalmology, psychological support, and general medicine, many of which were previously only available in Georgetown.

“For generations, residents on the East Coast had to travel to Georgetown for even basic services like X-rays or surgeries,” said Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony. “This hospital changes that reality.”

In addition to dialysis and X-ray facilities, the hospital also features CT scans and ultrasound imaging, making it one of the most advanced public health institutions outside the capital.

President Ali emphasized that this project is part of a broader strategy to position Guyana as a regional leader in innovative healthcare, with digital integration serving as the backbone of the country’s evolving public health infrastructure.

“We are ushering in a new era of smart, accessible healthcare—an era where technology, equity, and compassion intersect.”

The Enmore Regional Hospital is expected to serve as a model for future health infrastructure projects nationwide.
