FINANCE MINISTER DR. ASHNI SINGH URGES LOCAL AND GLOBAL INVESTMENT
Guyana’s economic rise took another major step forward on Tuesday with the official launch of the World Trade Centre Georgetown (WTCG), marking the nation’s entry into a global network of over 300 World Trade Centres across 100 countries.
Delivering remarks on behalf of President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, urged both local and international investors to capitalize on Guyana’s momentum as a rapidly emerging trade hub.
“If you are a producer of goods and services in Guyana, you must seamlessly be able to trade with Suriname, Brazil, and through those geographic neighbours, with South America and the wider Caribbean,” Dr. Singh asserted.
He emphasized that Guyana’s record-breaking growth trajectory demonstrates strong potential for expanding exports and strengthening a globally competitive non-oil economy, which he described as “the core of a diversified and resilient economy.”
Dr. Singh noted that the WTCG’s establishment comes at a critical juncture, as international interest in Guyana’s products and services continues to grow—raising the demand for higher production capacity and stronger regional linkages.
The newly inaugurated WTCG will serve as a strategic business hub, hosting industry workshops, trade missions, and networking sessions designed to link Guyanese enterprises with international markets.
Executive Chairman Kamal Samaru highlighted that the initiative aligns with Guyana’s broader push to foster sustainable development through international collaboration.
“Once the global system fails or shows gaps, businesses must build their own markets — a process that requires knowledge, information, and partners,” Samaru said.
He explained that beyond infrastructure, the WTCG will function as a platform for education, innovation, and market expansion, helping Guyanese companies gain a competitive edge and access new opportunities amid the country’s “explosive growth.”
