WIN LEADER CLAIMS STUDENTS FORCED TO USE PIT LATRINES IN SHOCKING HINTERLAND NEGLECT

South Pakaraimas, Guyana – October 1, 2025 – A fierce political spotlight has been shone on the state of Guyana’s hinterland schools, with We In Invest in Nationhood (WIN) leader Azruddin Mohamed issuing a public demand for immediate action, claiming that children and teachers at a Region 9 school are enduring “undignified and unsanitary” conditions.

In a direct address posted on his social media page, Mohamed pointedly called on Minister of Education Sonia Parag and Minister of Public Utilities Deodat Indar to include the Tiger Pond Nursery School and Primary School in South Pakaraimas on their list of water-scarce facilities.

The core of the dramatic statement alleges a critical failure of basic infrastructure: Mohamed claims that the school’s modern flush toilets have been completely abandoned because there is no running water to flush them. As a direct consequence, his statement claims, students and their educators have been “forced to use pit latrines for years now.”

Mohamed sharply criticized the situation, alleging that such treatment is “unacceptable” in a resource-rich country with the fastest-growing economy, citing a “glaring neglect of the hinterland.” He insisted that the children of Tiger Pond Nursery deserve the essentials for a safe and sanitary learning environment.

Furthermore, the WIN leader offered a concrete recommendation for relief. Given the alleged inability of the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) to provide a reliable water supply, Mohamed suggested a well be drilled immediately within the school compound. The public now awaits an official response from Minister Parag and Minister Indar regarding the deeply troubling conditions alleged at the remote school.
