WEST BANK DEMERARA, GUYANA – Westminster Secondary School is set to transform its auditorium into a stage of empowerment and advocacy on June 20, 2026. The school’s annual pageant this year is moving beyond traditional aesthetics, focusing instead on building self-confidence, enhancing communication skills, and fostering leadership among its students.
Six student delegates have been selected to compete, each championing a unique platform that addresses critical social issues and personal development.
Meet the Delegates
The competition features a diverse group of young women, aged 14 and 15, who are using the spotlight to advocate for meaningful change:
- Sarah Thomas (14): Platform: Courage. Sarah aims to inspire her peers to do what is right even in the face of fear.
- Viashsha Cantzlaar (14): Platform: Body Positivity. Viashsha is tackling the insecurities many teenagers face regarding their physical appearance.
- Denique Fredricks (15): Platform: Confidence. Her goal is to show how self-assurance can empower others to embrace their true selves.
- Nianna Seecharran (15): Platform: Self-Love. Nianna highlights the modern struggle of self-acceptance in the digital era.
- Samya Katwaroo (15): Platform: Self-Worth. Samya is focusing on the impact of cyberbullying, particularly its prevalence among young women.
- Keliannys Rios Mentore (14): Platform: Domestic Violence. She is advocating for those living in fear, emphasizing that a home should be a place of safety.
A Full Day of Community Activities
The pageant serves as the centerpiece of a broader community engagement strategy. In conjunction with the competition, Westminster Secondary will host a Fun Day starting at 10:00 AM.
Attendees can look forward to a vibrant atmosphere featuring:
- Music and Games
- Food Stalls and a BBQ
- Interactive Activities
A small fee of $1,500 will be charged for activities, with proceeds going toward supporting school initiatives. By combining celebration with serious advocacy, the event aims to foster critical life skills and provide a platform for the next generation of Guyanese leaders.
