WEST BANK DEMERARA, GUYANA – Westminster Secondary School is set to transform its auditorium into a stage of empowerment and advocacy on June 20, 2026. The school’s annual pageant this year is moving beyond traditional aesthetics, focusing instead on building self-confidence, enhancing communication skills, and fostering leadership among its students.

Six student delegates have been selected to compete, each championing a unique platform that addresses critical social issues and personal development.

Meet the Delegates

The competition features a diverse group of young women, aged 14 and 15, who are using the spotlight to advocate for meaningful change:

  • Sarah Thomas (14): Platform: Courage. Sarah aims to inspire her peers to do what is right even in the face of fear.
  • Viashsha Cantzlaar (14): Platform: Body Positivity. Viashsha is tackling the insecurities many teenagers face regarding their physical appearance.
  • Denique Fredricks (15): Platform: Confidence. Her goal is to show how self-assurance can empower others to embrace their true selves.
  • Nianna Seecharran (15): Platform: Self-Love. Nianna highlights the modern struggle of self-acceptance in the digital era.
  • Samya Katwaroo (15): Platform: Self-Worth. Samya is focusing on the impact of cyberbullying, particularly its prevalence among young women.
  • Keliannys Rios Mentore (14): Platform: Domestic Violence. She is advocating for those living in fear, emphasizing that a home should be a place of safety.

A Full Day of Community Activities

The pageant serves as the centerpiece of a broader community engagement strategy. In conjunction with the competition, Westminster Secondary will host a Fun Day starting at 10:00 AM.

Attendees can look forward to a vibrant atmosphere featuring:

  • Music and Games
  • Food Stalls and a BBQ
  • Interactive Activities

A small fee of $1,500 will be charged for activities, with proceeds going toward supporting school initiatives. By combining celebration with serious advocacy, the event aims to foster critical life skills and provide a platform for the next generation of Guyanese leaders.
