Forward Guyana Movement’s (FGM) presidential candidate, Amanza Walton-Desir, who is set to take up a seat in Guyana’s 13th Parliament, says her party will be pushing for greater accountability and citizen involvement in national decision-making.
Speaking on the importance of parliamentary committees, Walton-Desir stressed that the Natural Resources Committee must convene urgently to ensure that Guyanese benefit equally from the revised Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) with ExxonMobil.
“I believe a key component of making sure that Guyanese feel a part of this new PSA is to convene that Natural Resources Committee and invite experts,” she said.
Turning her attention to regional and global developments, Walton-Desir noted that geopolitical tensions—including recent military maneuvers in the Atlantic involving Venezuela and the United States—demand a more strategic and unified approach from Guyana.
“Guyana will have to depend on a national unity approach, as well as a very shrewd diplomatic posture, which I’m afraid we do not have at the moment,” she added.
The FGM leader also underscored the threat of climate change to low-lying, coastal nations like Guyana, warning that policymakers must treat adaptation and resilience as a top priority.
