GEORGETOWN, GUYANA – As Guyana continues to make global headlines as one of the world’s fastest-growing economies, the University of Guyana (UG) has launched Money Week 2025 — a three-day event designed to deepen financial understanding and empower a new generation of investors, entrepreneurs, and economic thinkers.
Hosted from June 3 to 5, the initiative brings together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and financial experts to explore critical issues in money management, investment, and Guyana’s evolving business landscape.
Delivering the opening address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Paloma Mohamed-Martin described the event as an eclectic mix of keynote addresses, workshops, films, and public discussions.
“While spending money is fun—take it from me—making money in a proper, honest, transparent, and accountable way is much more fun,” she told the gathering.
This year’s event is crafted to provide practical, real-world knowledge and equip participants with tools to navigate a rapidly changing economic environment.
A key highlight is the upcoming keynote address by Dr. Marlene Street Forrest, Managing Director of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, scheduled for Wednesday. Also on the agenda, Peter Ramsaroop, CEO of GO-Invest, delivered a presentation on Guyana’s investment outlook and national development strategy.
“When you study the 2025 budget and see billions being invested in agriculture, ask yourself, ‘Where do I fit in?’” Ramsaroop advised. “Follow the money. That’s how you find your opportunity.”
He encouraged attendees—especially youth and budding entrepreneurs—to explore agro-processing, manufacturing, and renewable energy, sectors bolstered by improved infrastructure and affordable energy sources.
Money Week is part of the University’s broader commitment to economic empowerment and national development through education.
