A violent altercation on Sunday evening in Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, has left two men dead and a woman hospitalized, following what police say was a domestic dispute that spiraled out of control.

Dead are 45-year-old Leon Fordyce and 35-year-old Sha Timothy LaFleur. Hospitalized is a woman identified only as “Angie” New Year, who remains under medical care at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

According to initial investigations by the Guyana Police Force, the confrontation stemmed from threats allegedly made against New Year’s son, escalating into a physical altercation. During the fight, New Year was reportedly stabbed in the abdomen, while Leon Fordyce received a blow to the head and was pronounced dead on arrival at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Sha LaFleur was also stabbed during the incident. He was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries on Monday while en route to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Speaking to the media, a relative of New Year claimed the confrontation arose from a paternity dispute involving a child allegedly fathered by one of the men.

“She said the child is my son’s child. But my son say it’s not his child… because the child resemble both man, and this one more black and resemble both of them,” the relative explained.

She denied accusations that her son was responsible for the fatal blow to Leon Fordyce, claiming he was also injured during the melee.

“Me son couldn’t get up, he was lying down. He get chop too. Nasty, nasty scene,” the woman said.

Crime scene investigators remain active in the area as police continue to piece together the events that led to the double homicide. No arrests have been confirmed as of Monday evening.
