Residents of Lichfield and surrounding villages are grappling with grief and fear after a well-known local man, affectionately called “Babe,” was viciously attacked and killed just moments after grabbing a meal from a neighborhood eatery.
The incident unfolded in #40 Village, West Coast Berbice, late Wednesday evening. According to reports, Babe was walking back home when at least two men launched a brutal assault on him. Witnesses say the attackers struck swiftly and fled before anyone could intervene.
Babe managed to stumble a short distance before collapsing. He reportedly died from his injuries before emergency services could reach him.
The attack has left many residents shaken. “He was a quiet fella, always going about his business. Nobody expected something like this,” one neighbor told reporters, barely holding back tears.
Police have launched a full investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward. Investigators are still working to determine a motive, but so far, no arrests have been made.
As the community mourns, many are calling for increased security and patrols in the area, saying they no longer feel safe even in broad daylight.
