In the wake of Sunday’s deadly gas station bombing that claimed the life of six-year-old Soraya Bourne and left several others injured, Sol Guyana, distributors of Mobil products, has announced an internal review of its safety and security protocols.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the company expressed deep sadness over the tragic explosion and confirmed that it is fully cooperating with authorities, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Guyana Police Force, as investigations continue.

“We recognize the public concerns surrounding this devastating incident and reaffirm that the safety and well-being of our team, customers, and the community remain our top priority,” the company said.

Sol Guyana confirmed that safety officials and investigators are currently on-site and pledged to assist law enforcement in every possible way. The company also urged the public to adhere to official safety guidance and avoid the affected area while investigations are ongoing.

At a recent press briefing, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed that the incident is being treated as a terror attack, with the prime suspect, Venezuelan national Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, now in custody. Police say he entered Guyana illegally just hours before the blast and has since confessed to detonating the explosive device.

Sol Guyana stated that its review aims to strengthen its existing emergency response and risk management framework to ensure such an incident never reoccurs.
