A major scandal has erupted within the Guyana Police Force (GPF) following allegations of blackmail and sexual harassment involving a very senior officer and a junior female rank attached to the same department.
According to reports, several compromising images of the two have surfaced, with claims that the senior officer allegedly used those images to blackmail the woman while also threatening her with a firearm.
Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, has not yet issued a statement. Still, Minister within the Ministry of Home Affairs, Onge Walrond, acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and noted that if proven, the matter could invoke provisions of the Sexual Offences Act.
“If a person in authority engages in a sexual relationship with a subordinate, the power dynamic removes the element of consent — it becomes a criminal matter,” Minister Walrond explained.
She further emphasized that the Ministry maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any officer who abuses their position of authority.
“If these allegations are true, they know there’s an absolute no-tolerance approach. Such conduct is criminal behavior under the Sexual Offences Act,” she affirmed.
Nightly News has been reliably informed that the female rank attempted to make an official report, but was allegedly discouraged by other officers who warned that the accused senior official was “too connected” and that the complaint would “go nowhere.”
Calls are now intensifying for a full internal investigation to verify the claims and determine whether disciplinary and criminal proceedings should follow.
The scandal has reportedly sent shockwaves throughout the GPF, reigniting public concern over abuse of power, corruption, and sexual exploitation within the force.
