The Ministry of Education has confirmed that schools across Guyana will officially reopen on Monday, September 8, 2025, signaling the start of the 2025–2026 academic year.

The new term was initially scheduled to begin on September 1, but the reopening date was adjusted to accommodate the just-concluded General and Regional Elections.

In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry expressed excitement at welcoming back students and teachers following the August holiday break. Special recognition was extended to first-time learners entering nursery, primary, and secondary schools.

Education officials also highlighted expanded facilities available to students this year, including the newly rebuilt Chryser Secondary School and the state-of-the-art North Ruimveldt Multilateral Secondary School on Mandela Avenue—both equipped with modern classrooms and enhanced resources.

The Ministry emphasized that these new schools reflect continued investment in creating safe, comfortable, and technology-driven learning environments.

Citing strong performances at the recent CSEC examinations, especially in mathematics and science, the Ministry noted that hundreds of students who wrote the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) will now transition into secondary schools, bringing a fresh wave of energy and potential to classrooms nationwide.

The Ministry encouraged parents, teachers, and students alike to embrace the new school year with determination, underscoring that this is a pivotal moment to build on academic achievement and strengthen learning outcomes.

Schools are expected to resume a full schedule on September 8, ushering in a new year of learning, growth, and opportunity.
