In its drive to expand health care services, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony, accompanied by a technical team, inspected several proposed sites along the East Coast Corridor that are earmarked for major new health projects.
The areas visited included Industry, Le Ressouvenir, Two Friends, and Lusignan, where the Ministry of Health plans to establish modern facilities that will push Guyana’s health infrastructure toward a modern, first-world era.
Proposed Projects
The upcoming developments include:
- A state-of-the-art Neurological Centre to provide specialized treatment for brain, spinal, and nervous system disorders, reducing the need for overseas care.
- A modern supply chain warehouse to significantly improve pharmaceutical and medical supplies storage, ensuring faster and more efficient distribution.
- A Biomedical Repair Centre to tackle the longstanding challenge of maintaining and repairing sophisticated medical equipment locally.
- Staff quarters to provide accommodation for both local and foreign medical professionals, ensuring sustainability of service delivery.
Strategic Importance
The site visits formed part of efforts to finalize the placement of these critical facilities, ensuring proximity to hospitals, major roadways, and essential utilities. Dr. Anthony emphasized that the projects will play a game-changing role in strengthening Guyana’s healthcare system and advancing the government’s broader goal of modernizing health services nationwide.
Once completed, these facilities are expected to transform healthcare delivery, expand capacity, and ensure Guyanese have greater access to specialized treatment and reliable medical services.
