PRESIDENT ALI TO GUYANESE: STAY THE COURSE, STAY UNITED

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — With just over two months until General and Regional Elections, President Dr. Irfaan Ali is calling on Guyanese to reflect on the gains made under the current administration and to reject what he described as “transactional leadership” being offered by political opponents.

Speaking at a packed fundraising event hosted at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre on Friday evening, Dr. Ali reaffirmed the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C)’s commitment to building a nation that works for every Guyanese. The event drew a large and energetic crowd, underscoring the ruling party’s momentum heading into the September 1 polls.

“We are not here to experiment with leadership,” the President told supporters. “The future of this country depends on solid, tested leadership — leadership that will rise, that will lift every day.”

He pointed to the government’s efforts to modernize the country’s healthcare system, expand access to housing, and make tertiary education more accessible to all. These, he said, are not promises, but ongoing achievements that will multiply in the years ahead.

Dr. Ali’s remarks reflected a broader appeal to voters: to stay the course and to guard against any reversal of progress. He emphasized that every Guyanese deserves dignity, and that this must be evident in the policies and programmes their leaders champion.

“We are talking about the next phase of development — an exciting journey of transformation,” he said. “We’re building a Guyana where every household, every community, can share in the country’s wealth.”

The President also highlighted the growing confidence the international community has in Guyana’s economic direction. According to him, investors are lining up not by chance, but because of the policy clarity, governance, and stability the current administration has provided.

“These are not years we can gamble with,” Dr. Ali warned. “The next five years are about building a Guyana that works for all of us.”

Echoing that sentiment, PPP General Secretary Dr. Bharat Jagdeo urged supporters to remain vigilant in the face of what he called “false promises” from political rivals. He pointed to the PPP/C’s track record since returning to office, especially in stabilizing the economy and improving the quality of life for citizens.

Jagdeo framed the upcoming elections as a choice between continued inclusive development and uncertain leadership. He underscored the party’s focus on equitable growth, small business support, and access to world-class education.

“All our people will move forward — regardless of race, religion or gender,” Jagdeo said. “We’ve laid out a clear plan for infrastructure, for education, for economic growth. And that plan is already working.”
