President and Commander-in-Chief Dr. Irfaan Ali has reaffirmed that Guyana remains a nation of peace—but one that will resolutely defend its sovereignty against any threat.

The Head of State made the declaration while delivering the keynote address at the Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) 60th Anniversary Interfaith Service, held over the weekend under the theme “Strengthening Our Nation Through Sacrifice and Selfless Service.”

President Ali commended the GDF for six decades of discipline, dignity, and devotion, describing the Force as “the shield and sword of the nation.”

“The Guyana Defence Force is not a force of aggression or intimidation,”
he stated.
“We are peaceful, yes—but we are prepared, and we will fiercely defend our territorial integrity and sovereignty against all threats, from wherever they may come.”

The Commander-in-Chief further pledged continued government support toward building a more agile, technologically advanced, and capable military, equipped to handle both traditional and emerging security threats.

“We are building a more agile, capable, and technologically proficient Force that will respond swiftly and effectively to modern threats,”
President Ali emphasized.

Founded on November 1, 1965, the Guyana Defence Force marks its diamond jubilee this year—celebrating 60 years of service to the people of Guyana.

During his address, President Ali also condemned last week’s terrorist attack at the Mobil Gas Station on Regent Street, which claimed the life of a young child. He described the act as a “vile assault on the people of Guyana” and an attempt to sow fear and chaos among citizens.

“We will get to the bottom of it. Let it be known, here and now, that we will not be intimidated. We will not bow. We will not be broken,”
the President declared firmly.

He praised the swift and coordinated response of the Guyana Police Force, the GDF, and the Joint Services, noting that their professionalism demonstrated the nation’s resilience in the face of evil.

“The professionalism and response remind us that, in the face of evil, Guyana stands united and unshaken,”
he said, adding that investigations into the attack would continue until justice is achieved.

“The motives behind this heinous act will come to light. We will pursue justice relentlessly and take every lawful measure to protect our people.”

President Ali concluded by cautioning against allowing fear or anger to breed prejudice or division, stressing that Guyana’s strength lies in its unity, compassion, and vigilance.
