PRESIDENT ALI OUTLINES VISION FOR TRANSFORMATIVE GROWTH AS 13TH PARLIAMENT CONVENES

As Guyana’s 13th Parliament officially convened on Monday, President Irfaan Ali expressed optimism that the new parliamentary term will be defined by constructive, fact-based, and people-centered debates that advance the country’s development agenda.

Speaking ahead of the sitting, President Ali emphasized that Parliament remains a cornerstone of Guyana’s democracy, serving as the arena where national policies are tested and refined through rigorous discussion and collaboration.

“The Parliament is an important part of our government structure. It is also an important representation of our democratic society… It is where policies are tested and where debate on national development takes place,” the President stated.

The Head of State further disclosed that he intends to deliver a comprehensive address to Parliament, outlining his administration’s vision and roadmap for national progress leading up to 2030.

He described the next five years as transformative, characterized by rapid development, economic expansion, and major infrastructure projects that will reshape Guyana’s landscape.

“Infrastructure leading to growth and expansion of the economy, opening up of new opportunities… defining a path in the next five years that will lead to resilient and sustainable development,” President Ali explained.

The President also revealed that his government will soon present an action plan and policy framework to Parliament. This plan will focus on increasing disposable income, creating jobs, providing affordable housingimproving healthcareensuring access to clean water, and promoting overall national prosperity.

“We are pursuing a development path that is bold, aggressive, and will lead to national wealth creation and prosperity,” he declared.

The 13th Parliament comprises 65 members, with the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC) holding 36 seats, the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party securing 16, the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) holding 12, and the Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) earning one seat.

The new session marks a pivotal moment for Guyana as the government and opposition prepare to navigate the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing national and global environment.
