The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce has begun early preparations for Guyana’s 2026 Calendar of Events, meeting on Monday with entertainers and event promoters from across the country for collaborative discussions ahead of Guyana’s historic 60th Independence Anniversary.

Tourism Minister Susan Rodrigues urged stakeholders to adopt a unified, patriotic approach to promoting Guyana’s cultural identity and entertainment landscape.

“We have to stay positive in our messaging. It’s not a political thing — this is about patriotism, this is about destination Guyana,” the Minister emphasized.

Rodrigues noted that while criticism is welcome, it must be delivered constructively, adding that the country’s creative sector plays a central role in shaping how Guyana is viewed both locally and internationally.

The meeting, which brought together major players from Guyana’s entertainment, culture, and events industries, focused on developing a vibrant, inclusive, culturally rich year-long calendar aligned with the milestone 60th Independence celebrations.

Highlighting the strategic value of the sector, Rodrigues urged participants to recognize their influence in shaping national pride and global perception.

“We have to first love Guyana before we can market Guyana, and all of you are important in ensuring that happens,” she told attendees.

With visitor arrivals projected to continue increasing, the Minister said 2026 will present significant opportunities for promoters, creatives, and cultural entrepreneurs—ranging from expanded partnerships to wider audiences and more commercially viable events.

Rodrigues stressed that coordination, transparency, and teamwork will be essential as the Ministry works alongside industry professionals to deliver world-class events.

“Working together ensures that the very best of Guyana is portrayed to the nation and the world,” she added.

Preparations for the national 2026 events calendar are expected to intensify in the first quarter of next year.
