POLICE RANKS ROB CHINESE NATIONAL OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS,VICTIM SAYS HE HAD JUST LEFT THE CASINO

Concerns Raised Over Police Crime Reporting, Officers Implicated in Robbery

The communications unit of the Guyana Police Force is facing criticism for being selective in releasing crime reports to the media, raising suspicions that the force may be attempting to present a more favorable picture of crime statistics.

Nightly News has confirmed that several serious crimes remain unreported, including a high-profile case involving a recently promoted inspector and four subordinate ranks, who are expected to face charges of robbery under arms.

According to reports, a Chinese national was leaving a Church Street casino last Tuesday after a major win when members of the anti-terrorism patrol stopped him. The inspector allegedly searched his bag, discovered more than $5 million in cash, and, along with the other ranks, confiscated the money before driving off.

The victim claimed he even offered the officers $1.5 million to let him go, but the demand was refused. He later filed a formal police complaint.

The officers have since been placed under close arrest at the Tactical Services Unit. Investigators from the Police Office of Professional Responsibility have reportedly obtained a confession statement after reviewing CCTV footage of the incident.
