Georgetown, Guyana – September 29, 2025 – The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that an investigation is underway after a Facebook post on September 27, 2025, alleged inappropriate conduct between Corporal 25126 Shazim Khan of the Mabaruma Police Station and a 15-year-old Grade 11 student.
According to the police, the Gender-Based Unit immediately launched a probe, interviewing the student in the presence of her mother. Both firmly denied the allegations, with the teen stressing that she never had any sexual relations with Khan, whom they described as a family friend. Written statements were also provided to support their account.
The Regional Division Commander engaged School Welfare Officer Ms. Rehanna Chan, who separately interviewed the student and her mother. They again maintained that the claims circulating on Facebook were false. The mother, however, refused to consent to a medical examination, insisting that the post was a deliberate attempt to embarrass her daughter. Without that consent, the School Welfare Officer noted her own inquiry could go no further.
Still, the investigation continues. Child protection NGO Blossom Inc. has been invited to carry out a forensic interview, which was scheduled for today at 11:00 hrs. Police have assured the matter will be treated with urgency and the probe is ongoing.
