ONE GUYANA STARTS PUMPING — NEW OIL VESSEL PUSHES COUNTRY PAST 900,000 BARRELS A DAY

Guyana’s oil output has hit another record high with the launch of production from its largest offshore vessel yet — the ONE GUYANA Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit.

The new vessel, stationed in the prolific Stabroek Block, is expected to pump about 250,000 barrels of crude oil per day, pushing Guyana’s total daily production to over 900,000 barrels. Before this, the combined output from the Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, and Payara Prosperity vessels averaged around 677,000 barrels per day.

The ONE GUYANA will tap into the Yellowtail and Redtail fields, discovered in 2019 and 2020, using advanced Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF) infrastructure to operate 26 production wells and 25 water-alternating-gas injection wells.

Built for Scale — and for Safety

Constructed by SBM Offshore, the vessel has been designed with a strong environmental focus. It is the first FPSO in Guyana to have spare gas processing compressors built in, ensuring uninterrupted gas handling even during maintenance work.

The Yellowtail Petroleum Production Licence — approved in 2022 — has also set a new standard for offshore projects, embedding stricter environmental safeguards, tougher safety requirements, and stronger measures for eventual decommissioning.

A Strategic Step Forward

The government says the project reflects its commitment to managing the petroleum sector for long-term national benefit, while staying aligned with broader climate goals.

“This is about responsible growth,” the Ministry of Natural Resources said in its announcement. “We are ensuring that development in the sector is matched with environmental and safety standards that protect Guyana’s future.”

With ONE GUYANA now in operation, the country’s oil story enters a new chapter — one that blends unprecedented production levels with a stated focus on sustainability.
