NO TOLERANCE FOR UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT MINISTER – PERSAUD WARNS STAFF

As the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security intensifies efforts to improve service delivery, Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud has issued a firm warning to staff that professionalism, respect, and dignity in dealing with the public are non-negotiable.

The Minister delivered the message during an open day at the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s new East Bank Demerara office in Prospect, where she engaged directly with employees and addressed concerns surrounding customer service and workplace conduct.

Dr. Persaud stressed that unprofessional behaviour toward clients—particularly seniors and persons living with disabilities—will not be tolerated at the Prospect location or any other ministry office across the country. She reminded staff that the ministry’s mandate requires empathy, patience, and respect at all times.

She urged employees to treat members of the public as they would their own family, underscoring that the word “human” in the ministry’s name must be reflected in daily interactions. According to the Minister, individuals who visit the ministry often do so at vulnerable moments in their lives and deserve to be met with compassion and dignity.

Dr. Persaud also made it clear that poor attitudes and misconduct carry serious consequences. She said the move into a new facility must be accompanied by a renewed commitment to improved behaviour, professionalism, and quality service, warning that continued employment depends on demonstrable improvement.

The Minister’s remarks form part of a broader push by the government to modernise public service delivery and restore public confidence in state institutions, particularly those serving vulnerable populations.
