Georgetown, Guyana – August 30, 2025 – As Guyana enters the final hours before polls open, the leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party has issued a national call for peace, urging citizens to reject division and violence while upholding the dignity of democracy.
In his address, the presidential candidate appealed to all Guyanese, supporters and opponents alike, to safeguard harmony during what is expected to be one of the most closely watched elections in decades.
“My fellow Guyanese, I call on every one of you, whether you stand with WIN or not, to stand for peace, for harmony and for the dignity of our democracy,” he said. “Let us show ourselves and the world that Guyana can rise above division, that we are a peaceful people. Reject any push to derail the peace of this nation. No threat is stronger than our unity.”
The WIN leader encouraged voters to head to the polls “with courage, with calm and with confidence” on Election Day, stressing that the moment was not about party lines but about a shared commitment to the country’s future. “Not as opponents, but as brothers and sisters bound by a love for this country we all call home,” he added.
He also urged citizens to use Sunday, when no campaigning is permitted, as a day of reflection and prayer. “There will be no campaign, so I urge all of you to use that day as a day of prayer. May Almighty God guide us through this,” he said.
The message comes amid heightened tensions following disputes between political parties and the Elections Commission in recent days. Observers from international bodies, including the Carter Center and the OAS, have repeatedly stressed that peace and calm are critical to ensuring that the elections are credible and widely accepted.
By placing unity and faith at the forefront of his final appeal, the WIN leader positioned himself not only as a candidate, but also as a voice for national reconciliation during a decisive moment in Guyana’s democratic journey.
