GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — Prominent businessman Nazar Mohamed has publicly accused ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) of attempting to falsely implicate his son, Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed, in the 2021 execution-style murder of businessman Ricardo Fagundes, widely known as “Paper Shorts.”
In a video statement posted to social media, Nazar Mohamed leveled a series of serious allegations against criminal investigators, maintaining that his son had no involvement in the high-profile homicide and questioning why law enforcement is targeting associates of the Mohamed family five years after the crime took place.
Allegations of Target Interrogations and Incentivized Statements
According to Nazar Mohamed, police ranks have arrested and questioned several individuals closely connected to his family in an effort to construct a case against the Opposition Leader:
- Mohamed Racing Team Associates: Four men affiliated with the Mohamed Racing Team were taken into custody for questioning regarding the 2021 shooting.
- Detention of Former Employee: Nazar Mohamed addressed the recent arrest of Travis Aiden, a deportee and former employee of Mohamed’s Enterprise.
- Allegations of Coercion: Nazar Mohamed alleged that investigators offered incentives to Aiden—who he claimed had committed serious offenses in the United States—in exchange for providing statements implicating Azruddin Mohamed.
- Location at Time of Crime: The senior Mohamed insisted that Aiden was working for the family in Georgetown at the time of Fagundes’ death and could not support claims linking his son to the murder.

“Based on everything I know, my son had absolutely no involvement in this murder,” Nazar Mohamed stated during his broadcast. “Why are investigators, five years after the crime, now focusing on Azruddin Mohamed and his associates? We are appealing to the relevant authorities to closely examine the conduct of this investigation and question whether this is the standard of policing intended for our country.”
Unresolved 2021 Homicide Remains Open
Ricardo Fagundes was shot and killed outside a popular Main Street nightspot in Georgetown in March 2021. Nazar Mohamed criticized police for attempting to portray Fagundes as an innocent victim despite what he described as Fagundes’ alleged criminal history, urging investigators to examine the broader circumstances surrounding the victim’s activities to find those actually responsible.
At press time, the Guyana Police Force has not issued an official response to the allegations leveled by Nazar Mohamed, and the homicide investigation into the death of Ricardo Fagundes remains active.
