The mother of six-year-old Soraya Browne, who was killed in Sunday night’s gas station explosion on Regent Street, is pleading for justice as investigators report significant progress in the ongoing probe.
Samantha Roach, Soraya’s mother, described the tragedy as “unimaginable” and said her daughter had been excitedly preparing for her upcoming birthday celebration.
The visibly distraught mother said she was at home when she received the heartbreaking call that her little girl had died in the blast.
She is now calling on police to ensure that whoever is responsible is swiftly apprehended and prosecuted.
Family Members Injured
The explosion also left four of Soraya’s relatives hospitalized with severe injuries — her cousins Rashad Lord (8) and Sadiya McClintock (11), her grandmother Yvonne Jonas (71), and her 27-year-old cousin Genica Hooper.
All four were occupants of the silver Toyota Premio that was struck by the explosion near the Mobil Gas Station’s propane cylinders.
Police: Investigation Making Progress
The Guyana Police Force confirmed Monday afternoon that the investigation has made “significant progress.”
Detectives are pursuing a Spanish-speaking man captured on CCTV placing a black plastic bag near the station’s propane tanks — the same area where the explosion originated.
Police believe the act was deliberate and are treating the case as a terror-related attack, the third of its kind in Guyana since May 2025.
