GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — With the 2026 examination season fast approaching, the Ministry of Education is launching a high-intensity intervention to bolster student performance in Mathematics. Starting this Saturday, March 28, 2026, “Math Tents” will be erected across all educational districts, providing a dedicated space for students to tackle their most challenging topics with the help of subject experts.
The initiative targets Grade 6 (NGSA), Grade 11 (CSEC), and select Grade 10 students, offering a final push to refine their skills before they sit for their official papers in April and May.
A Specialized Focus: Weekly Topics & Expert Guidance
Misckha White-Griffith, Chief Planning Officer at the Ministry of Education, explained that these tents are designed to be accessible to every learner, regardless of their school.
- Expert Interaction: Students can visit the tent in their local area to engage directly with “math experts” who will break down complex concepts.
- Topic-Based Learning: The sessions will not be random; they will focus on specific high-frequency exam topics each week.
- Self-Paced Resources: While the tents provide in-person support, students are also encouraged to continue using the Ministry’s Digital School and practice independently or in study groups.
“We have math tents throughout the regions where students from any school can go… It’s going to be focused on topics per week, so you need to follow our [Facebook] page to see location, time, and also what topics they will be looking at.” — Chief Planning Officer, Misckha White-Griffith
The Math Performance Trend: 2024 vs. 2025
The Ministry’s push comes on the back of encouraging, yet still developing, results from the previous academic year.
| Examination | 2024 Pass Rate | 2025 Pass Rate | Status |
| NGSA (Grade 6) | 40.6% | 55.51% | Highest in history |
| CSEC (Grades 1-3) | 27% | 32% | Steady Growth |
While the NGSA scores saw a historic leap of nearly 15% in 2025, the CSEC Mathematics pass rate remains a critical area of focus. The 2026 “Math Tents” are specifically aimed at bridging this gap and ensuring that the upward trend continues for the current cohort.
Important Dates for the 2026 Exam Season
Students visiting the tents this Saturday should keep the following official examination dates in mind:
- National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA): Wednesday, April 29, and Thursday, April 30, 2026.
- CSEC Mathematics (Paper 1 & 2): Thursday, May 28, 2026.
Conclusion: Targeted Support for Every Child
By bringing “the classroom to the community,” the Ministry of Education aims to eliminate the anxiety often associated with Mathematics. As students in all ten regions prepare to enter these tents this weekend, the goal is simple: to ensure that every Guyanese learner enters the exam room with the confidence and the “edge” they need to succeed.
