MINISTER MANICKCHAND MOVES TO TACKLE GEORGETOWN’S SANITATION WOES

Mounting concerns about the proper management of Georgetown’s waste have prompted swift intervention from the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development.

Minister Priya Manickchand met with senior officials from the Mayor and City Council this week, stressing that cleanliness in the capital city must be treated as a national priority.

The Minister emphasized that waste collection, disposal, and wider sanitation issues require stronger collaboration between central government and local authorities, given the impact on public health, tourism, and the overall image of the city.

Discussions centered on immediate measures to improve garbage collection services and longer-term strategies for building a more sustainable waste management system.
