LEAKING ROOF AT BRICKDAM SECONDARY RECTIFIED – MINISTER PARAG CONFIRMS

By Antonio Dey | HGP Nightly News |

Minister of Education Sonia Parag has confirmed that reports of rainwater leaking through the roof of the newly constructed Brickdam Secondary School have been addressed, following swift intervention by technical personnel from her ministry.

The issue came to public attention after a video circulated on social media showing water entering sections of the school building during rainfall, prompting widespread criticism and concern about the quality of construction at the recently completed facility.

Speaking with Nightly News, Minister Parag said a team of engineers was dispatched to the school shortly after the reports emerged to investigate and resolve the matter. According to the minister, the situation has since been remedied.

She explained that technical assessments revealed the problem was not limited to the roof alone, but was exacerbated by taps that had reportedly been left unattended, compounding the extent of water intrusion.

Minister Parag acknowledged that while the school represents a significant investment—valued at approximately $700 million—no facility is immune to wear and tear. She emphasised that routine and timely maintenance is critical to ensuring a safe and comfortable learning environment for both students and teachers.

The minister stressed that when issues arise under her watch, immediate action will be taken to prevent disruptions to the education system. She reiterated that nothing should be allowed to impede the smooth delivery of education.

Brickdam Secondary School accommodates more than 500 students and features 22 classrooms, two science laboratories, an information technology lab, an industrial technology room, and other modern amenities designed to support secondary-level education.

The Ministry of Education has assured that continued monitoring and maintenance will be undertaken to ensure the facility remains fit for purpose.
