Heritage Games Kick Off in Fine Style
The 2025 Amerindian Heritage Games officially commenced on Wednesday at the Everest Ground, Camp Road, Georgetown.
Minister of Amerindian Affairs Sarah Brown-Shadick, who only a few years ago competed as a footballer in the very tournament, declared the games open alongside Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport Charles Ramson Jr..
The Heritage Games will run until Sunday, September 28, bringing together athletes from across Guyana to showcase their skills in traditional and contemporary sporting disciplines.
Sports Ministry Engagements
Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Steven Jacobs continued his introductory engagements with sports bodies this week.
On Wednesday, Jacobs met with the Guyana Chess Federation, Blind Cricket Association, Guyana Hockey Board, and the Guyana Cricket Board. He described the discussions as “insightful,” emphasizing collaboration and stakeholder input in shaping Guyana’s sporting future.
Football – Coach Thomas Dooley Begins Training Camp
Newly appointed Guyana Jaguars Head Coach Thomas Dooley has wasted no time getting to work.
Dooley, who met the national domestic player pool on September 13, is now leading a training camp with homegrown players as part of preparations for upcoming international fixtures.
The initiative, he noted, is aimed at raising performance standards and setting a foundation for long-term success in Guyana’s football.
