National Sports Awards Set for November 8
The National Sports Commission (NSC) will celebrate Guyana’s top athletic performers of 2024 at its Annual National Sports Awards Ceremony on November 8.
Guided by Director of Sport Steve Ninvalle, the NSC Selection Committee ensured a transparent, merit-based process after reviewing nominations from national federations.
Nominees include:
- Sportsman of the Year: Omari Glasgow, Nicholas Albert, Emanuel Archibald, and Ashmead Nedd.
- Junior Sportsman: Kaidon Persaud, Malachi Austin, Raekwon Noel, and Sachin Pitamber.
- Sportswoman of the Year: Nicolette Fernandes, Ashley Khalil, Ceili Peterson, and Rosanna Fung.
- Junior Sportswoman: Athaleyah Hinckson and Tianna Springer.
- Coach of the Year: Julian Edmonds, Ryan Hercules, and Joseph “Bill” Wilson.
- Association of the Year: Basketball, Chess, Bodybuilding & Fitness, and Golf Federations.
- Sports Officials: Michael Singh, Shavin Greene, Vidish Sookram, Kerwyn Johnson, Natasha George, Denisha Isaacs, and Aileen Bowman-Joseph.
- Sports Journalists: Rawle Toney, Michelangelo Jacobus, Jemima Holmes, Akeem Greene, and Eric Collymore.
- Corporate Sponsors: NAMILCO, ANSA McAL, ENet, Bluewater Shipping, MVP Sports, ExxonMobil, Trophy Stall, and Sublime Security.
Brava Guyana Open 2025 Tees Off
The Brava Guyana Open 2025 Golf Tournament will officially launch on Friday evening with a cocktail reception at the Lusignan Golf Club.
The two-day tournament begins Saturday, November 1 and concludes Sunday, November 2, featuring over 100 golfers from Guyana, Suriname, and Fiji.
Guyana’s challenge will be led by 13-time champion Avinash Persaud, alongside 6-time champion Christine Sukhram and 2-time champion Dr. Joaan Deo.
Women’s Division 1 Football League Heats Up
In the Guyana Football Federation’s Division 1 Women’s League, Monedderlust FC defeated Den Amstel FC 3–1 on Wednesday, with goals from Lilianna Greenidge and a double by Delicia Frazer. Den Amstel’s Delia Chow netted their lone goal.
In the second encounter, Santos FC edged Fruta Conquerors 1–0, courtesy of a match-winning strike from Gabriel Rivera.
Pee-Wee Schools Football Finals Set
The 2025 Courts Optical U-11 Pee-Wee Football Tournament concludes this Saturday, November 1, at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.
Redeemer Primary faces West Ruimveldt Primary in the third-place playoff, while Leonora Primary takes on St. John the Baptist Primary in the grand finale.
West Indies Eye T20 Series Sweep
The West Indies will face Bangladesh in the third and final T20 International on Friday in Chittagong at 8:00 a.m.
After clinching the first two matches, the Windies will be aiming for a 3–0 clean sweep, following their 2–1 loss in the ODI series earlier this month.
