HGP SPORTS PULSE – OCTOBER 22, 2025

Horse Racing:
Guyana’s Galo White of Slingerz Racing Stable finished a strong second place at the 41st Grand Premiere Latin American Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Competing in the João Borges Filho Grand Prix Haras Rio Iguassu (G2), Galo White led most of the race before being narrowly beaten by Tyrion, reaffirming Guyana’s rising presence in South American horse racing.

Cycling:
The Second Trifecta Memorial Cycling Event, hosted by Flying Stars Cycling Club in Linden, honored several late cyclists. Brighton John of United We Stand Cycling Club dominated the Elite Class 15-lap race, while other category winners included Seigon Herbert (Masters 40+), Alex Newton (Juniors), Ian Jackson (Masters 50+), Julio Melville (Category 4), Kevin Stephens (Juvenile), and Abigail Jeffrey (Ladies).

Football:
The GFF Division 1 Women’s League continued at the National Training Centre with two fixtures: Guyana Defence Force vs Ann’s Grove United, and Western Tigers vs Mainstay Goldstars, with results pending at press time.

Local Cricket:
In the NBS Second Division 40-Overs Tournament, MYO clinched a close 8-run victory over GDF at DCC Ground. MYO posted 300, led by Damion Cecil (61) and Ricky Debydial (50 retired hurt). GDF’s Shamal Angel hit a brilliant 114, but Gaurav Ramesh (3-51) and Kelvin Umroa (2 wickets) sealed the win for MYO.

International Cricket:
The West Indies will face Bangladesh in the 3rd and final ODI in Dhaka on Thursday. After losing the first match by 74 runs, the Windies leveled the series with a dramatic 1-run win via Super Over in the second ODI. They now aim to clinch the series 2-1, following their recent victory over Pakistan.

Injury Update:
Shamar Joseph will travel to England for specialist shoulder treatment after discomfort resurfaced during training ahead of the Bangladesh ODIs. The injury, sustained during the CPL, has sidelined him since. Cricket West Indies confirmed he’ll begin a rehabilitation program following medical consultation.
