Rosanna Fung Makes History!
Guyana’s Rosanna Fung became the first Guyanese to win a World Championship title at the IFBB World Championships during the Binous Classics in Dubai (Oct 17–19, 2025). Competing in the Wellness Category, Fung claimed gold, defeating top global athletes — a landmark win showcasing Guyana’s growing strength in world bodybuilding.
Powerlifting:
Franklyn Brisport-Luke Shines in South Africa
Veteran powerlifter Franklyn Brisport-Luke earned four bronze medals at the 2025 IPF World Masters Equipped Championships in Cape Town, South Africa. Competing in the Masters 2 – 66kg Class A, he medaled in squat, bench press, and deadlift, and took overall bronze, later placing 7th in the Classic (Raw) segment.
Women’s Football:
GDF Women Dominate Division 1 League
The GDF Women’s team demolished Monedderlust 32–0, with Sandra Johnson netting 8 goals, Glendy Lewis 6, and Shenessa Cornelius and Niomie Williams 4 each. Western Tigers edged Rivers’ View FC 1–0, thanks to Marrissa Frank’s decisive strike.
Men’s Football (Elite League):
Slingerz, Santos Secure Victories
In the Elite League Season 7, Santos FC beat Fruta Conquerors 4–1, with Sigmund Cobena named Player of the Match. Slingerz FC rallied to defeat Guyana Police Force FC 3–1, led by goals from Darron Niles, Germey Garnett, and Roshawn Ritch. Final matches are set for Oct 25 in Providence.
Cricket (GPF vs NYPD):
President Ali Leads GPF to Victory
At Eve Leary, President Dr. Irfaan Ali captained the Guyana Police Force to a 72-run win over the NYPD, honoring fallen officer Randolph Holder. Troy Benn hit a century (100 off 54 balls) as GPF posted 229–5, then restricted NYPD to 157–9, with Ivor Trotz taking 3 wickets and President Ali claiming 2.
Inter-County Cricket:
Demerara Defeats Berbice to Reach Final
At Number 69 Ground, Demerara defeated Berbice by 3 wickets to advance to the Queensway Security Inc. Senior Men’s Inter-County Final. Mavendra Dindyal starred with an unbeaten 61, supported by *Jonathan Van-Lange (32)**, after Berbice posted 162. The final is set for Oct 26 in Region 2.
International Cricket:
West Indies Fall to Bangladesh in ODI Opener
The West Indies lost by 74 runs to Bangladesh in the first ODI in Dhaka. Bangladesh made 207, with Jayden Seales taking 3/48. The Windies collapsed for 133, as Rishad Hossain claimed 6/35. The second ODI bowls off Tuesday at 3:30 hrs.
