Badminton: Team Guyana Shines at CAREBACO Championships
Team Guyana delivered an impressive performance at the 2025 CAREBACO Senior Badminton Championships in Trinidad & Tobago, earning a total of four medals.
Senior Men’s National Champion Akili Haynes secured two bronze medals—one in the men’s singles and another in the mixed doubles alongside Senior Women’s National Champion Priyanna Ramdhani.
Ramdhani also captured a silver medal in the women’s doubles with Chequeda De Boulet and was well on her way to claiming the women’s singles title before a knee injury forced her retirement in the second set of the final. She had earlier won the first set 21–13 and was leading 14–11 when she withdrew.
Football: Ministry Backs KFC International Schools Tournament
The Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport has reaffirmed its full support for the 6th Annual KFC International Secondary Schools Football Tournament, which takes place from December 14 to 21 in Georgetown.
Minister Steven Jacobs described the event as a celebration of youth, talent, and regional friendship, welcoming eight teams from six nations — including Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Suriname, Brazil, and the Bahamas.
He praised the tournament’s organisers and sponsors for fostering youth development and sports excellence, reiterating that the Ministry remains committed to creating opportunities for young athletes to grow and compete on the regional stage.
Hockey: High-Scoring Action at National Indoor Championship
Exciting matches continued on Tuesday in the Bounty Supermarket–sponsored Guyana Hockey Board National Indoor Hockey Championship at the National Gymnasium.
In the Men’s Second Division, Saints Hockey Club dominated with a 5–0 win over Hikers Cadets, featuring two goals from Baraka Garnett.
Old Fort edged GCC Outlaws 3–2, with Yonnick Norton scoring twice.
In the Women’s Division, GBTI GCC defeated the National Women’s Over-40s 7–2, led by Abosaide Cadogan’s five goals and Rebecca Ferreira’s brace. Old Fort Inferno later secured a 4–2 victory over Hikers Women.
The tournament continues nightly and concludes on Sunday, November 9.
Cricket: New Zealand Levels T20 Series
In cricket, New Zealand leveled the five-match T20I series against the West Indies with a thrilling three-run win in the second match at Eden Park.
Batting first, NZ posted 207–5 (20 overs), driven by a blistering 78 from Mark Chapman (28 balls) and 39 from Tim Robinson. Roston Chase led the Windies’ bowling with 2–33.
The West Indies fought valiantly but fell just short at 204–8 (20 overs). Rovman Powell smashed 45 off 16 balls, while Romario Shepherd added 34 off 16, but tight bowling from Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner sealed the victory for the hosts.
The series now stands at 1–1, with the third T20 scheduled for tomorrow.
