Potaro, Santa Rosa, Marian Academy Shine as MVP Sports U-11 Girls Tournament Kicks Off
The 2025 MVP Sports Girls Under-11 Football Tournament kicked off on Saturday with eight exciting fixtures at the Ministry of Education Ground.
Potaro Primary and West Ruimveldt Primary registered walkover victories, while St. John the Baptist Primary delivered one of the dayโs biggest wins with a dominant 7โ0 performance over Smith Memorial. Thalia Alert scored a clinical hat-trick, supported by goals from Elianna Grant (2) and Antacia Livan (1).
Agatash Primary and Georgetown International Academy played to a competitive 1โ1 draw, with Rakeyla Joseph and Sofia Molina scoring for their teams. North Georgetown and St. Aloysius also battled to a 1โ1 stalemate.
Marian Academy controlled their fixture with a commanding 6โ0 win over Tucville Primary, driven by doubles from Haley Haberkorn, Ella Fernandes and Haley Denobrega.
Santa Rosa Primary ended the day in style with a 7โ0 win against Genesis Primary. Rovena Johnson was unstoppable with four goals, while Bre Atkinson added a brace.
Chase Academic Foundation Dominates as U-18 Schools Tournament Continues
Action continued in the 2025 Republic Bank U-18 Schools Football Tournament on Sunday with four matches at the Ministry of Education Ground.
Three Mile Secondary opened the day with a convincing 4โ1 win over Presidentโs College. Lloyd Brown scored once for the losing side, while Labron Mendonca netted a double and Joshua James and Haydock Parris added one each.
South Ruimveldt Secondary secured a walkover victory against Abram Zuil.
West Ruimveldt Secondary then powered past Dolphin Secondary 3โ0, with Donovan Welcome scoring twice and Jeremiah Griffith adding another.
Defending champions Chase Academic Foundation closed the day with a dominant 4โ0 win over Charlestown Secondary, led by a brilliant four-goal performance from captain Brian Wharton.
Multiple Champions Emerge at Alanis Cycling Club Road Race
Team Alanis Cycling Club, in partnership with Eleโs Trading and Hardware, hosted a competitive road race on Sunday from the Demerara River Bridge to Parika and back to Schoonord.
In the Elite/Senior category, Brighton John claimed victory ahead of Kwame Ridley and Jamaul John.
Ridley returned to win the Masters category ahead of Jaikaran Sukhai and Robin Persaud, while Alex Newton topped the Juniors ahead of Alexander Leung and Ajani Cutting.
In the Masters Over-50 division, James “Joelyn” Joseph emerged champion with Mark Spencer finishing second and Nigel London third. Julio Melville won the Category 4 race.
Sprint prizes went to Brighton John, Jamaul John, Alexander Leung and Kwame Ridley.
Amsterdam, Allicock Selected for IBA Menโs Elite World Championships
Guyanaโs top boxers Desmond Amsterdam and Keevin Allicock will represent the nation at the 2025 IBA Menโs Elite World Championships, scheduled for December 2โ13 in Dubai.
The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) said both athletes are entering the tournament with renewed determination. Allicock, an Olympian, aims to build on his international experience, while AmsterdamโGuyanaโs first AMBC Elite Championship bronze medallistโcontinues to rank among the Caribbeanโs best.
GBA President Steve Ninvalle expressed confidence in the pair, noting that their participation is crucial for Guyanaโs regional and international presence in the sport.
Guyana Senior Squad Departs for CWI Super50 Cup
The Guyana Cricket Board has announced the departure of the national senior menโs team for the upcoming CWI Super50 Cup.
The 14-member squad will be led by captain Matthew Nandu, with Gudakesh Motie as vice-captain. The team also includes Raymond Perez, Kevlon Anderson, Mavendra Dindyal, Kemol Savory (wk), Richie Looknauth, Ronaldo Alimohamed, Thaddeus Lovell, Antony Adams, Sylus Tyndall, Keemo Paul, Junior Sinclair, and 16-year-old Shamar Apple, who earns his first senior call-up following outstanding youth performances.
Reserves include Kevin Sinclair, Isai Thorne, Kevon Boodie, Tomanni Caesar, Romeo Deonarain and Joshua Jones.
