Cricket (Fundraiser & Tapeball Tournament)

The Georgetown Cricket Club hosted a lively fundraiser and tapeball tournament on Sunday at the historic Bourda Cricket Ground, featuring teams such as Village Rams, Eccles All Stars, Team Corruption, Hard Knocks XI, Tropix Essentials, Pure Entertainers and The Gunners.

The fast-paced knockout event culminated in a dramatic final between the Malteenoes Knight Riders and the Madhia Movements Family. Madhia were crowned champions after Malteenoes refused to continue their run chase after the first over, citing poor visibility.

Individual awards, presented by West Indies all-format player Kevin Sinclair, went to Ntini Permaul (Best Bowler) and Ershad Ali, who claimed both Most Runs and Tournament MVP.


Cricket (West Indies vs New Zealand ODI)

New Zealand defeated the West Indies by 7 runs in the first ODI at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Saturday.

Batting first, NZ posted 269โ€“7, powered by a superb 119 from Daryl Mitchell and 49 from Devon Conway. Jayden Seales led the West Indies bowling with 3โ€“41.

In reply, the West Indies reached 262โ€“6, with Sherfane Rutherford scoring 55 and Justin Greaves finishing unbeaten on 38. Kyle Jamieson claimed 3โ€“52 for New Zealand.

Mitchell was named Player of the Match.
Match 2 bowls off Tuesday at McLean Park, Napier from 21:00 hrs.


Basketball (Guyana Finishes 2nd in FIBA Womenโ€™s Caribbean Championship)

Team Guyana ended the 2025 FIBA Womenโ€™s Caribbean Championship on a high, securing second place after key wins over Suriname and Jamaica.

Guyana crushed Suriname 106โ€“42 on Saturday behind a massive triple-double from Joy Adams (19 pts, 12 rebs, 10 asts), and standout scoring from Amisha Ramlall (25) and Anaya McDavid (24).

On Sunday, Guyana edged Jamaica 83โ€“74, led by Ruth Adams (24 pts) and a dominant all-round performance from captain Joy Adams (23 pts, 17 rebs, 3 stls).

Guyana finished 3โ€“1, just behind undefeated champions USVI. The top three teams โ€” USVI, Guyana and The Bahamas โ€” advance to the 2026 CentroBasket Championship.


Football (GFF Division 1 Womenโ€™s League)

Two exciting matchups highlighted Fridayโ€™s action in the GFF Division 1 Womenโ€™s League.

Mainstay Goldstars and Santos FC battled to a 3โ€“3 draw, with Ashley Cozier scoring twice for Mainstay and Afeena Baptiste netting a brilliant hat-trick for Santos.

In the second match, Rivers View United edged Den Amstel 2โ€“1, thanks to a double from Candace Robertson. Lisa Charles scored Den Amstelโ€™s lone goal.


Football (Concacaf Series: Guyana vs Bonaire)

Guyanaโ€™s Golden Jaguars secured a hard-fought 2โ€“1 victory over Bonaire on Sunday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Early pressure paid off with Stephen Duke-McKenna scoring in the 5th minute, followed by a decisive strike from Osaze DeRosario in the 77th.

Guyana returns to action tomorrow against hosts Antigua & Barbuda from 19:00 hrs, also at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
