GUYANA POLICE FORCE SUPPORTS YOUNG CRICKETER KEON BOYCE

The Guyana Police Force Officers’ Cricket Team presented cricket equipment to 15-year-old fast bowler Keon Boyce on Tuesday, recognizing his emerging talent and passion for the sport.

The presentation was made at Eve Leary by Deputy Commissioner (Administration) and Team Captain Ravindradat Budhram, along with Vice-Captain Superintendent Ronald Alli.

Boyce, who started his cricket journey at the Police Sports Club and now plays for the Malteenoes Sports Club Youth Team, is a student of Valmiki College and the son of Woman Superintendent Fredella Boyce.

Deputy Commissioner Budhram encouraged the young bowler to remain committed to his studies while developing his cricketing career. The initiative forms part of the Officers Cricket Team’s ongoing programme to support youth development and nurture young talent across Guyana.


GFF DIVISION 1 WOMEN’S LEAGUE RESUMES TONIGHT

Action resumes tonight in the GFF Division 1 Women’s League 2025 with two fixtures at the National Training Centre, Providence.

  • Match 1: Ann’s Grove United vs Guyana Police Force FC
  • Match 2 (Underway): Monedderlust vs Santos FC

KASHIF & SHANGHAI NATIONAL FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIP LAUNCHED

The 3rd Edition of the Kashif & Shanghai National Futsal Championship was officially launched on Tuesday.

The tournament will run from December 9th to January 2nd at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall and will feature:

  • 48 senior men’s teams
  • 8 women’s teams
  • 20 schools competing in an Under-18 division

This year’s top prize is an impressive $3 million, according to Co-Director Kashif Muhammad.
The winning school in the U-18 tournament will receive a $700,000 education grant.


GDF HOSTS 60th ANNIVERSARY RUGBY 7s TOURNAMENT

The Guyana Defence Force hosted its 60th Anniversary 7s Rugby Tournament on Sunday at the National Park Playfield.

Four teams—GDF Rugby Squad, GPF Falcons, the Panthers, and GDF “A”—played in a round-robin format before advancing to placement matches.

  • 3rd Place: GDF “A” defeated the Panthers, led by two tries from Laurex Stewart.
  • Championship Final: The GPF Falcons edged hosts GDF 15–14 in a thrilling finish.
    • Falcons’ tries came from Owen Adonis, Lionel Holder, and Oneal Charles.
    • GDF’s Agboola Silverthorne and Yannick Williams scored in a close fight.

National Head Coach Steven Lewis was in attendance as the tournament also served as part of the selection process for the “Green Machine” National Rugby Squad ahead of the Rugby Americas North 7s.

The winning Falcons walked away with a $600,000 cash prize.


FIBA WOMEN’S CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONSHIP SERVES OFF IN GEORGETOWN

The FIBA Women’s Caribbean Championship tipped off today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

  • Game 1: Suriname vs Jamaica
  • Game 2 (Underway): Guyana vs The Bahamas

Tomorrow’s fixtures:

  • The Bahamas vs Suriname – 16:30 hrs
  • Guyana vs USVI – 20:30 hrs (8:30 pm)
