Meanwhile, the international sporting world is buzzing following the announcement that one of Guyana’s premier Olympians will participate in a radical new sporting event. Athletics: McKinnon and Europe Shine on Day 2 at Leonora

The National Track and Field Centre in Leonora continues to be the proving ground for Guyana’s student-athletes.

  • Distance Dominance: Esther McKinnon of Uitvlugt Secondary proved her endurance, claiming the U-20 Girls 3000m crown. In the U-17 Boys 3000m, Corey Speede of Tutorial High added another gold to his collection with a clinical finish.
  • The Jumpers: Duel Europe of St. Stanislaus College showcased his explosive power to secure the U-20 Boys Long Jump title.

Football: Camptown FC Crowned GFA Senior League Champions

  • The Standings: With 29 points (9 wins, 2 draws), Camptown secured the title by a comfortable 6-point margin over runners-up Riddim Squad FC.
  • Final Four: Beacon FC and Black Pearl FC rounded out the top four in what has been one of the most competitive seasons in recent GFA history.

Cricket: Division 3 and Combined Units Dominate Police Cup

The 2026 Commissioner of Police T20 Cup continued at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary, with two decisive victories.

  • Match 1: Regional Division #3 crushed Division #10 by 99 runs. The victory was set up by half-centuries from David Hughes (59) and Michael Jobe (58), while Hemraj Persaud dismantled the opposition’s batting order with a brilliant 5-20.
  • Match 2: The combined power of Divisions 1, 7, 8, and 9 proved too much for the combined 4A & 4B units. Damian Vantull (64) and Lynsford Williams (51) led the charge in a 53-run victory.

Cricket: ACS Tour – American Cricket Society Edges Lusignan in Thriller

The American Cricket Society (ACS) tour of Guyana produced its most exciting finish yet at the Lusignan Community Centre Ground.

  • The Sinclair Century: Lusignan’s Kevin Sinclair played a majestic innings, scoring 115 to help his team reach a formidable 195-9.
  • The Chase: ACS responded with grit. Ryan Francis (40) laid the foundation, but it was Captain Akeem Dewar’s unbeaten 28 that guided the visitors to a 3-wicket victory with just two balls to spare. Karan Ganesh was the pick of the bowlers for Lusignan, taking 3-47 in the losing effort.
