GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — The stadium at Leonora was electric on Wednesday as Guyana’s fastest students battled for national titles, while on the cricket pitch, the Malteenoes Warriors continued their destructive form in the Sherwin Williams T20 Cup. Athletics: Speed and Endurance on Display at Leonora

The 2026 National Secondary Schools Championships saw a flurry of podium finishes as the country’s top young athletes took to the track at the National Track and Field Centre.

  • Sprint Kings & Queens:
    • U-20 100m: Onesi Dunn (Chase Academic Foundation) and Nyoscie Wright (New Amsterdam Multilateral) were crowned the fastest senior students in the country.
    • U-17 100m: Omari Welch (Corentyne Comprehensive) and Angel Jeffrey (Christianburg Wismar Secondary) secured gold.
    • U-15 100m: Menyelek Tacoordeen (Annai Secondary) and Reanna Williams (3 Miles Secondary) dominated the junior sprints.
  • Distance & Field:
    • Corey Speede (Tutorial High) and Nadia Williams won the U-17 1500m titles.
    • Ebo McNeil (Mackenzie High) proved his stamina to take the U-20 Boys 1500m.
    • In the pits, Malachai Montooth (Mackenzie High) soared to victory in the U-15 Boys High-Jump.

Cricket: Malteenoes Crush GYO in Sherwin Williams T20

The Malteenoes Warriors sent a clear message to the rest of the league with a massive 130-run victory over GYO Mystic Marvels.

  • The Batting: Captain Shaquille Moseley led from the front with a brilliant 59, propelling Malteenoes to a formidable 205-9.
  • The Thomas Terror: For the second consecutive match, Jonte Thomas was unplayable. He picked up his second “4-fer” in a row, finishing with incredible figures of 4-6 as GYO crumbled for just 75 runs.

Cricket: Headquarters and Presidential Guards Secure Police Cup Wins

The 2026 Commissioner of Police T20 Cup continued at Eve Leary with two one-sided encounters.

  • Headquarters vs. Division #5: Andrew Lyght Jr. put on a batting masterclass with an unbeaten 82, while Ameer Mohammed snagged 3 wickets to lead HQ to a 7-wicket win.
  • Presidential Guards vs. GPF Academy: National player Kevlon Anderson put in a true “all-rounder” performance, taking 3 wickets and scoring 59 to guide the Guards to their own 7-wicket victory. Mark Jeffers also contributed with a 3-wicket haul.

Cricket: American Cricket Society (ACS) Launches Guyana Tour

International cricket returned to the local club level as the American Cricket Society officially began their 2026 tour.

  • The Opener: ACS faced off against Lusignan Sports Club earlier today.
  • The Schedule: The Americans move to Enterprise on Friday before participating in the highly anticipated Malteenoes “King of the 6s” on Saturday. The tour will also visit historic venues including Enmore, DCC, and Bush Lot.

Football: Milo U-18 Schools Tournament Officially Launched

The Petra Organization and Massy Distribution officially unveiled the 12th edition of the Milo U-18 Schools Football Tournament at Montrose.

  • Wide Reach: This year’s tournament will see a massive expansion, featuring schools from Georgetown, East Coast, Essequibo, Berbice, Linden, and the Hinterland.
  • Sustained Support: Massy Distribution reaffirmed its commitment to youth development through its Milo brand, which has become synonymous with elite school football in Guyana.
