HGP SPORTS PULSE – JANUARY 26, 2026

Over the weekend, action unfolded at the Caribbean Boxing Organization’s inaugural Pro/Am Showdown at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown, featuring a packed slate of amateur and professional bouts.

In the amateur division, Guyana’s female standout Abiola Jackman earned a points victory over Angel George of Trinidad and Tobago. However, Jofes Jackman fell on points to Suriname’s Chivoro Blackson.
Travis Inverary secured a win for Guyana against Suriname’s Ordino Massie, while Ken Harvey delivered an emphatic second-round knockout over Zahir Timpico of Suriname.
In an all-Guyanese contest, Roopesh Balgobin defeated Junior Madray, while Shaquain James claimed victory after Ossis Prince was deemed medically unfit.

In the professional bouts, Bahamian Rasheed Williams won via unanimous decision against Jamaica’s Nico Yeyo, while Barbados’ Charles Cox scored a fourth-round TKO over Guyana’s Quincy Gomes.
Guyanese Kevin Isaacs secured a unanimous decision win against Suriname’s Samuel Greene, and Joel Williamson earned a TKO victory over Jamaica’s Damar Haslam.
Suriname’s Michell Wielson defeated Barbadian Tyreece Taitt by unanimous decision, while Jamal Eastman also claimed a points victory over Delon Charles.

The all-Guyanese main event ended in spectacular fashion, with Desmond Amsterdam scoring a first-round knockout over Esmond Declou.


Moving into football, action continued in the 2026 CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers, with Guyana facing Jamaica on Sunday at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium in Aruba.

The keenly contested encounter ended in a 1–1 draw, with goals from Guyana’s Alexaundria Chasles and Jamaica’s Nycolette Predergast.
Guyana’s next qualifier will be against Aruba on Thursday at the same venue.


More football now, as the 2026 Georgetown Football Association Senior Men’s League resumed with fixtures at the Plaisance Community Centre Ground.

On Thursday, Motherland FC recorded a dominant 4–0 victory over Northern Rangers FC, with goals from Shamar Britton, Carlos Agard, Malachi Richards, and Lonsdale George.
In the second match, David Iguanetti netted a brilliant hat-trick as Vegy FC defeated Ordis FC 3–0.

On Saturday, Pele FC edged Genesis FC 2–1, with goals from Michael Oie and a brace from Orlando Lovell.
Meanwhile, Blackpearl FC cruised to a commanding 4–0 win over Eastveldt FC, courtesy of goals from Nicholas Headley, Derwin Bourne, and Kester Warde.

League action continues Tuesday, with Riddim Squad FC facing Camptown FC, followed by Beacon FC versus Northstars FC.


Turning to cricket, Trinidad and Tobago claimed third place at the 2026 CWI Women’s T20 Blaze Tournament, edging Guyana by seven runs on Saturday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Batting first, Trinidad and Tobago posted 104-7, led by Brittney Cooper’s 46, while Ashmini Munisar starred for Guyana with 4-15.
In reply, Guyana were bowled out for 97, despite Shabika Gajnabi’s 32, with Karishma Ramharack taking 3-13 for Trinidad and Tobago.

In the final, the Leeward Islands Women captured their first T20 Blaze title, defeating Barbados by six runs.


Finally in cricket, action continued in the Super Six stage of the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s World Cup.

Batting first against Ireland at the High Performance Oval in Windhoek, the West Indies were dismissed for 226, with Jewel Andrew top-scoring with 66, while Reuben Wilson claimed 3-50 for Ireland.
Ireland’s reply was restricted to 164-7 in a rain-affected chase, as Micah McKenzie starred with 4-36, earning Player of the Match honors in a 19-run DLS victory.

The West Indies will next face Australia on Wednesday at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.
