Football: GFF Reaffirms Commitment at 41st CONCACAF Congress

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF), led by President Wayne Forde, joined regional football leaders in Managua, Nicaragua, for the 41st CONCACAF Ordinary Congress. The summit, presided over by CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani, marked a decade of his leadership and set a strategic roadmap for the coming years.

Key outcomes included:

  • Budget Approval: The 2026 CONCACAF Budget was formally approved to support regional growth.
  • World Cup Readiness: Updates were provided on the CONCACAF Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the region prepares to host the global event.
  • Regional Governance: GFF reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening football administration and youth development pathways across the Caribbean.

Junior Lady Jags Drub St. Vincent 14-0

In an exhibition of pure offensive clinicality, the Guyana U-17 Girls National Team closed their CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying campaign with a staggering 14-0 victory over St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Monday.

The match at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium in Aruba saw Alexaudria Chasles deliver a masterclass, netting six goals. The scoresheet was a testament to the team’s depth, with goals also coming from Tanya De Vair, Avril Pasvolsky, Ellie Biffin, Anaya Joseph, Carissa Lombardi, Aliyah John, and Arianna Chin. While the “Junior Lady Jags” narrowly missed out on the final round, the 14-goal margin stands as one of the most dominant wins in the federation’s youth history.


Horse Racing: Dataman Rules the Banks DIH Classic

The Port Mourant Turf Club was at its capacity on Sunday for the Banks DIH Classic, where Dataman of Master Z Stables proved why he is the horse to beat. Dataman claimed the $2 million top prize in the feature one-mile event, stopping the clock at a blistering 1:33.

Basketball: GTI and QC Secure Hard-Fought Wins

The 2026 Schools Basketball League continued its Georgetown circuit with three high-stakes fixtures on Friday.

  • Burnham Court: In the game of the night, the Government Technical Institute (GTI) edged out St. Stanislaus College with a nail-biting 43-42 victory, led by a standout 15-point performance from Kemp Moriah.
  • QC Court: Queenโ€™s College defended their home court with a 57-44 win over St. Roseโ€™s High. Both Nathan Morrison and Deshawn Gurrick chipped in with 15 points each.
  • Marian Court: Presidentโ€™s College showcased defensive discipline to defeat Marian Academy 39-22.

Cricket: GGMC Dominates 3-Team Tape-ball Tournament

The National Park hosted a competitive Tape-ball showdown among government agencies. The Guyana Geology & Mines Commission (GGMC) emerged as the day’s undisputed champion.

The highlight of the tournament was a spectacular knock by Quincy Ovid-Richardson, who smashed 98 runs off just 32 balls in the second match against the Ministry of Natural Resources. GGMC capped the day with a 31-run victory over the Guyana Forestry Commission, finishing with a total of 148-2 in their final 8-over fixture.
