Lady Jags Fall 3–1 to Nicaragua in CONCACAF Qualifiers
Guyana’s Senior Women’s National Football Team suffered a 3–1 defeat to Nicaragua in their CONCACAF Qualifier match on Monday at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora.
Nicaragua’s Sheila Flores, Nuria Marquez, and Doriana Aguilar each found the back of the net, while Annalisa Vincent scored Guyana’s lone goal in a losing effort.
The Lady Jags will next face Dominica on February 27, 2026, as they continue their qualifying campaign.
Saints and Pepsi Hikers Dominate Diamond Mineral Water Hockey Festival
Action in the 2025 Diamond Mineral Water Hockey Festival wrapped up over the weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in Georgetown.
- Saints Hockey Club captured the Women’s Open title.
- Pepsi Hikers secured victory in both the Men’s Open and Over-40 categories.
- The Trinidad and Tobago Masters prevailed in the Over-50 division.
The tournament once again showcased top regional and local hockey talent.
Rawle Allicock and Aditi Joshi Win Chess Grand Prix Titles
The Guyana Chess Federation’s I-CEE-sponsored Grand Prix 2 Tournament concluded on Sunday at the School of the Nations.
In the Open Category, FIDE Master Rawle Allicock emerged victorious, with Anthony Drayton finishing second and Keron Sandiford third.
In the Women’s Category, Woman Candidate Master Aditi Joshi secured first place, followed by Ciel Clement in second and WCM Sasha Shariff in third.
Demerara and Hinterland All-Stars Eliminated From Women’s Inter-County Tournament
Two decisive matches on Tuesday sealed the fate of Demerara and Hinterland All-Stars, who both exited the 2025 One Guyana Senior Women’s Inter-County Tournament.
At LBI Community Centre Ground
Berbice defeated Demerara by 4 wickets.
Demerara were bowled out for 72 in 36.2 overs. Plaffianna Millington delivered a phenomenal spell, taking 5–11 from 10 overs.
Tilleya Madramootoo top scored with a determined 18 from 64 balls.
Berbice reached 73–6, with captain Sheneta Grimmond scoring 24 (20) and Player of the Match Plaffianna Millington adding an unbeaten 21 (40).
Demerara captain Kaysia Schultz impressed with a superb 6–30 from 7 overs.
At Lusignan Community Centre Ground
Essequibo defeated Hinterland All-Stars by 8 wickets.
Hinterland were dismissed for 50, with captain Kelsey Couchman the only batter in double figures (10).
Kumarie Persaud took 4–14, while Tremaine Marks added 3–14 for Essequibo.
Essequibo cruised to 51–2, led by Persaud’s 17 (19). Tifney Larose and Feona Benjamin each claimed one wicket.
Final Set for Thursday
Essequibo will meet Berbice in the 2025 One Guyana Senior Women’s Inter-County Final on Thursday, December 4, at the LBI Community Centre Ground.
West Indies U-19 Boys Defeat England 5–2 in ODI Series
The West Indies Under-19s sealed a commanding 5–2 series victory over England after a 51-run win in the final Youth ODI on Monday at the Grenada National Stadium.
Batting first, the Windies posted 213 all out in 44.1 overs.
Earsinho Fontaine top scored with 39 (85), Tyriek Bryan added 36 (46), and Guyana’s rising star Shamar Apple contributed an explosive 31 (26).
England’s Alex French was impressive with 3–21.
England were bowled out for 154, with Caleb Falconer scoring 52 (69).
Aadian Racha and Micah McKenzie each claimed four wickets to secure the victory for the Caribbean side.
