CHASE ACADEMIC FOUNDATION RETAINS U-18 FOOTBALL TITLE

The 2025 Republic Bank U-18 Schools Football Tournament wrapped up on Sunday with four matches at the Ministry of Education Ground, bringing an exciting close to this year’s competition.

Abram Zuil Secondary opened the day with a 2–0 win over President’s College, courtesy of goals from Daniel Bumbury and Jaden Evans.

In match two, Three Miles Secondary edged South Ruimveldt Secondary 3–2, with Durell Washington, Joshua James, and Labron Mendonca each scoring once.

The third match saw defending champions Chase Academic Foundation secure a commanding 3–0 victory over Dolphin Secondary. Captain Bryan Wharton, Isaiah Ifill, and Shaquan David all found the back of the net.

The final fixture featured a dominant performance from West Ruimveldt Secondary, who defeated Charlestown Secondary 5–1. Jeremiah Griffith produced a brilliant hat-trick, supported by Donovan Welcome’s double and a solo strike from Dellon Philadelphia. Cambie DeAngelo scored Charlestown’s lone goal.

Chase Academic Foundation were crowned league champions once again. Captain Bryan Wharton finished as the tournament’s top goal-scorer, while Shaquan David earned the MVP award.


TOP TALENTS SHINE AT GOKARN RAMDHANI MEMORIAL BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

Some of Guyana’s brightest emerging badminton talents delivered standout performances as the Gokarn Ramdhani Memorial Badminton Tournament concluded on Saturday at the National Gymnasium.

In the Under-23 Singles, Frank Waddell captured the men’s title, while Mishka Beharry secured the women’s crown. Beharry later teamed up with Leshaunte Berkley to win the Women’s Doubles championship.

In the Mixed Doubles final, the duo of Akili Haynes and Asiyah Eastman claimed victory. Meanwhile, Nkosi Beaton and Daniel Tan pulled off one of the tournament’s biggest upsets by defeating Haynes and Tyrese Jeffrey 2–1 in the Men’s Doubles final.

The tournament was sponsored by Massy Distribution, Sol Guyana, the National Sports Commission, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport.


LUSIGNAN CRICKET CLUB HONOURS OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS AT ANNUAL AWARDS

The Lusignan Cricket Club hosted its annual awards ceremony on Saturday at the Lusignan Sports Club Ground, celebrating outstanding performances both on and off the field over the past year.

Featured speakers included Guyana Cricket Board President Bissoondyal Singh and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr. The Minister also used the occasion to donate a brand-new auto-roller to assist the club’s curators with pitch preparation.

The ceremony recognized consistent achievements, development milestones, and the contributions of volunteers and administrators who support the club’s operations.


POLICE FORCE PRESENTS CRICKET GEAR TO LANCE CORPORAL SHERICA CAMPBELL

The Guyana Police Force Officers’ Cricket Team on Monday presented cricket gear to Lance Corporal Sherica Campbell, who is currently representing Berbice in the GCB Senior Women’s 50-Overs Inter-County Tournament.

Campbell, stationed at the Police Communications Branch, is a product of both the Police Cricket Club and the Rose Hall Cricket Club. She is an accomplished all-rounder—an opening batter and medium-pace bowler whose rise reflects the depth of talent within the Police Force.

Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Ravindradat Budhram made the presentation, accompanied by senior officers Jermaine Johnson, Ronald Alli, and Sports Development Officer Colin Boyce.
Budhram congratulated Campbell and reaffirmed the GPF’s commitment to nurturing discipline, pride, and excellence through sport.


WEST INDIES U-19 CLINCH YOUTH ODI SERIES WITH CAPTAIN’S HEROICS

The West Indies Under-19 Boys secured the series win against England after triumphing in the sixth Youth ODI at the Grenada National Cricket Stadium.

England, batting first, posted 221 all out in 47.5 overs, with captain Farhan Ahmed scoring 54 and Isaac Mohammed adding 45. Guyanese pacer Jonathan Van Lange delivered an exceptional spell, taking 4–35.

In response, the West Indies reached 222–6, led by a magnificent unbeaten century from captain Joshua Dorne, who struck 102 from 101 balls. Kunal Tilokani supported with an impressive 49.

Guyana’s Shamar Apple made his Youth ODI debut but managed just one run. Despite the modest start, officials remain confident in his long-term potential.

The victory sealed the series for the rising Caribbean side.
